Jay Erker Pop-up this weekend at Weekend

You missed our hot show on the hottest day of the year a couple weeks ago? You attended our hot show on the hottest day of the year a couple weeks ago and want to see Jay Erker's brilliant piece, Cut Both Ways, again? Well...

We'll be on the front lawn of Weekend on Sat. Sept. 29 from 2-4pm at 4634 Hollywood Blvd (between Vermont and Hillhurst). We'll only be there for 2 hours.  Come say hi, chat us up and meet artist Jay Erker - Support artist-run spaces in Los Angeles!

Weekend
4634 Hollywood Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90027
HOURS: SAT & SUN, 11am-6pm (and by appt.)
www.weekendspace.org

For Cut Both Ways Jay Erker presents, in book form, layered fashion advertisements whose subject matter has been clearly removed. Bodies of abstraction are created by the accumulation of layered pages and the subsequent interstitial spaces are shaped from the cut away figures. Eliminating the subject diverts attention from that which is meant to compel, focusing the viewer’s attention to the figure’s absence, the background of the originating image, and the newly constructed abstracted imagery. Erker received her MFA in film at California Institute of the Arts in 2001 and her BFA in photography in 1997 from the University of Florida. She co-founded Weekend, an artist-run space in Los Feliz, with husband John Mills.

Thank You for the Hottest Day Ever!

Big thanks to everyone who braved the heat and came out for Jay Erker's Cut Both Ways.  Although it was sweltering, there was a nice breeze and Jay's work cooled us down and got us going.  We loved being on the traffic island and are so pleased so many of you enjoyed it and Jay's work.

We might be back there at some point, so do keep in touch, check back, say hi and all that good stuff.  We sometimes do last minute pop-ups, so get on our mailing list, you might be able to see Jay's work again!

SAVE THE DATE: Saturday, October 20 from 4-7pm - JOHN SOUZA (location TBA)
